Work is a Verb - This Season Hits Different When You Work Remote

Hey Reader,

Back-to-school season is upon us

At least according to the stack of target circulars crowding my mailbox... And for once, my junk mail got me thinking: this time of year must hit very differently depending on where and how you work.

For remote parents, September might actually bring a welcome dose of structure. Drop-offs and pick-ups can be handled without burning PTO. Midday meltdowns don’t require cloak-and-dagger calendar excuses. And the mental gymnastics of coordinating backup care every time school closes for a half-day? Significantly reduced.

But for parents facing a daily commute? The return to school isn’t a gentle reset. It’s a logistical gauntlet full of jammed highways, overlapping schedules, and a calendar that demands sick-day math just to survive the first flu season.

Remote work doesn’t erase the chaos of parenting. But it does offer breathing room. And in a world where the “second shift” still disproportionately falls on women, that flexibility isn’t just a perk, it’s a lever for equity.

This season is a reminder:

When companies embrace remote work not just as a policy, but as a culture, they aren’t just accommodating parents.

They’re unlocking a deeper kind of performance rooted in trust, adaptability, and real-life sustainability.

We want to hear from you!

If you’re a remote parent, what has this season really been like for you? What’s one thing remote work has made easier or one strategy you swear by when juggling Zoom calls and school pickups?

Reply to this email or drop us a note. We’re gathering stories, tips, and lived experiences for an upcoming piece and we’d love to feature yours (with your permission, of course).

Because behind every great remote culture are real people making it work in real life. Let’s spotlight that!

Work is a Verb A newsletter by I just got home from a trip to Houston for a friend's baby shower. There was a keg, 40 pounds of brisket, and about seven dogs running around. It was awesome... which is not something I ever expected to say about a baby shower. It checked the usual boxes — celebrated the parents, brought people together, had way too much food. But it did it in a way that felt like them, not like a Pinterest template. That's actually a pretty good framework for thinking about...
